1 National 5 Dance Miss Davey 2015/2016 Name _______________________________ Course Structure The Course assessment will consist of one Component, a performance. The purpose of this performance is to assess the learner’s ability to apply the technical and choreographic skills learned across the Units. The performance will have 100 marks (100% of the total mark). It will have three Sections. Section 1 — performance of a solo in one dance genre (35 marks) The solo dance will be tutor-choreographed and will last a minimum of one and a half minutes. Section 2 — performance of a choreography for two dancers (35 marks) The choreography will take the form of a duet, excluding the learner, and should last a minimum of one and a half minutes. Section 3 — support log for choreography (30 marks) The purpose of the support log is to provide evidence of the process of planning, developing and evaluating choreography for two dancers.

2 Contract I ________________________ agree to always bring appropriate kit to National 5 Dance. For assessments, I will wear black leggings and a black leotard/tight black vest top. I will wear appropriate footwear every lesson, this means bare feet for contemporary and jazz shoes for any other style. 9 Contemporary Research 1.1 Describe technical skills and characteristics of the selected dance style. 1.2 Explain the development of the selected dance style.

11 Once you have researched.... Compile your answers in a project booklet. This should have the following: 1.Front Cover 2.Contents page 3.Historical background 4.Social and cultural influences on the dance style 5.Technical skills in contemporary dance 6.Famous choreographers in contemporary dance Make sure you make your booklet eye catching, it should have pictures and lots of colour.

12 Jazz You need to perform all of these techniques in a dance class for assessment. Tick off the techniques you are comfortable with and highlight the ones that need extra work. Warm Up: -Roll Downs -Isolations using head shoulders ribs hips and feet -Lunges -foot exercises Prep for jumps in 1 st and 2 nd Cardiovascular movements Centre Work -Use of feet and legs 1 st and 2nd -Use of arms 1 st and 2 nd -tendus and glisses -Jazz plies -isolation sequence -ripples including dolphin and snake -Preparation for developpe and developpes in first -preparation for pirouettes -pas de bourree -kicks Travelling: -Elevation including step hops, sautes, jetes -Turns including open turns and jazz turns -Step ball change, cross ball change, flick ball change Jazz walks Straight leg kick combinations including forwards/back and side -Combination of travel movements.

22 Famous Choreographers Research a choreographer of your choice. Choose someone who inspires you and produce a piece of writing that details there work.

23 Evidence for Choreogrphy 1.Candidates should have a choreography essay that identifies choreographic principles, structures, devices and spatial patterns. 2.Candidates should complete a personal project on a choreographer of their choice 3.Pupils should make a mood board to keep stimulus ideas together and to provide motivation. 4.Pupils should create a choreography log book to keep information about principle and rehearsal times etc together. 5.Pupils should make up, teach and present choreography to tutor 6.Pupils should evaluate choreography describing strengths and areas for improvement.

24 Added Value Extend your choreography by 30 seconds and introduce more complex movements to your routine. Learn the extended and more complex version of the set dance for your assessment.

25 Evidence I can describe the historical context, dance skills and characteristics of a chosen dance genre I can describe the factors that have influenced a professional dance practitioner and their work. I can demonstrate technical skills in two dance styles (jazz and contemporary) I can apply technical skills when performing skills in a routine lasting 1.5 minutes in two dance styles. I can self reflect and evaluate the technical skills used in the performance of self, peers and others I can perform safely taking into consideration things like posture, alignment, warm up, cool down, hydration, attire.
