Merritt Brown National History Day Fair “Turning Points In History: People, Ideas and Events” You are invited to participate in the MBMS History Fair on Thursday January 24, 2013 An Open House is scheduled from 5:00-7 p.m. on Thursday Jan 24 th. Awards will be posted and projects will be open to the public All Registration is in the Bear Lab 4 copies of Historical Papers Due by Monday January 21 st 9:00 am Exhibits should be registered on Tuesday Jan 22 during your social studies class Final Paperwork must be approved by your teacher and turned into Mrs. Sermons prior to official entry. Projects without correct paperwork will be disqualified. All Exhibits will be set up in the Media Center by 3 pm on Jan 23 Documentaries and WebPages need to be assigned a computer and set up on Wednesday Jan 23 during your Social Studies Class. All Documentaries,and Web Pages will be set up in the Bear Lab Historical Papers will be judged in the Media Center Conference Room Live Performances will report to the Bear Lab at their assigned Time to set up/Props/Costumes and Backdrops will be housed in Bear Lab until designated Set up The Media Center and Bear Lab will be open for Final Touches and to Turn in revised Paperwork on Wednesday Afternoon from 2-4 pm Judging will begin on Wed Evening at 4 pm and continue on Thursday Jan 24th th at 8:30 a.m. and end at approximately 1p.m. All Judging is closed to the Public. Students may be called by judges.

Merritt Brown National History Day Fair Final Preparation Directions : All Categories: 1. All Work must be Student Produced!! 2. Each Project is required to have 3 pieces of Paper Work: Title Page with only specified Information. No Decorations, Illustrations or Color Title and subtitle centered Name(s) Category Junior Division Process Paper of No More than 500 words which answers the 4 required questions (Word Count Recorded at end of Paper) No more than 500 Words No Colored Ink or Colored Paper At least 4 Paragraphs in this order: -How selected topic -How researched project -How selected category -How it relates to Theme Most detail without going over is best 12 pt font Double spaced Correctly Written Annotated Bibliography Written in consistent correct format 1. Sources Divided into Primary and Secondary Categories 2. Written using one of the Approved Style Manuals (Turabian or MLA preferred) 3. Mini Paragraph for each source describing a. What was in the source b. How you used the source in your project c. How you know this a reliable source -Paperwork can not be in a folder or notebook of any kind -Use White Unlined Paper and 1 Inch margins -10-12 point Type and Double Space Process Paper 3. Project must directly Address the Theme Fill Out Attached Forms and Return to Social Studies Teacher

Category Rules: HISTORICAL PAPERS: Use White Unlined Paper /1 Inch margins/ 10-12 pt Type and Double Space 1.No Process Paper is required, Must have Title Page and Annotated Bib only 2.Paper must be 1500-2500 words long. Quotations Count. 3.Word Count at end of text and Pages must be numbered 4.All ideas and quotations must be cited using an approved style (Turabian or MLA ) EXHIBITS: no larger than 40 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 6 feet high 1.There is a 500 word-limit that applies to all text created by the student includes the text you write for titles, subtitles, captions, graphs, timelines 2.Quotations, Primary Source Materials and non-student composed maps. Documents etc. do not count in this limit Citations Suggested. DOCUMENTARIES: 1.may not exceed 10 minutes / Allowed an additional 5 minutes to set up and 5 minutes to remove 2.You must operate all equipment. You must provide the narration, voice-overs and dramatization. Only those students listed as entrants may participate in the production or appear on camera. 3.At the conclusion of the documentary, you should provide a general list of acknowledgments and credits for any featured music, images, film/media clips, interviews, or other sources. PERFORMANCES: 1.Performances may not exceed 10 minutes /allowed an additional 5 minutes to set up and 5 minutes to remove any props 2.Use of slides, tape recorders, computers, or other media within your performance is permitted. You must run all equipment and carry out any special lighting effects WEBPAGES: The overall file size of your web site can be no more than 100MB of file space 1. The web site may contain no more than 1200 visible, student-composed words 2. Citations are Required in the Webpage 3. You must submit projects on Weebly at the NHD Fair Webpage 4. One page of the web site must serve as the “home page.” The home page must include the names of participants, entry title, division, and a main menu that directs viewers to the various sections of the site. 5. The Process Paper Annotated Bibliography needs to be a component in the Webpage
