3 Components of Electronic Reserves Georgia Tech Library Electronic Reserves: - 9 th year of operation - provides access to an extensive variety of material - available 24/7 - supports limitless simultaneous users

4 Components of Electronic Reserves Our system is a home grown system utilizing an Access database and Voyager Circulation and Cataloging modules. The look and feel of Georgia Tech’s E-Reserves is completely customized!

5 Components of Electronic Reserves Incoming submissions are scanned on a Fujitsu scanner at 300 dpi and updated throughout the day.

6 Components of Electronic Reserves E- Reserves consists of class notes, homework solutions, exams, journal articles and book chapters Additions/removals made upon faculty’s request

7 Components of Electronic Reserves Course material for Electronic Reserves may be submitted electronically or in print format. Items in print format are scanned and saved as PDF documents. Items in electronic format are copied to a scan directory and downloaded directly to the web. No hard copies are available at the Circulation Desk.

9 Reserves Processing Time & Statistics Current Academic Year Books: 750 Book Submissions 452 Permanent Reserves Scanned items: 2,444 Scanned Articles 527 Permanent Exams Total items viewed 2002-2003: 650,000

10 Reserves Processing Time & Statistics Materials received… –by the last day of classes are available the first day –the first week of the semester are processed within 3-5 days or less –after the first week of classes are processed within 2 working days

11 Reserves Processing Time & Statistics Renewals Three weeks prior to the end of the semester, Reserve personnel send reminders to renew or remove current material on reserve

12 Tips for Producing the Best Scanned Image Print submissions should be clean, legible and on white 8 ½ x 11 paper Black ink for handwritten notes or homework solutions Single sided copies Copyrighted material

14 Course Reserves Searching for Reserves… Browse by College/School or Search by Dept/Course Number and/or Professor

15 Course Reserves A professor’s web page consists of: -course number -course name -instructor’s name -campus address -email address -prof’s home page -a list of scanned items -URLs and/or -books
