INSIDE. members are proactive within their own institutions OUTSIDE. members take action – doing work that they would normally be doing TOGETHER. individual members come together to work/take position on an issue Example: letter to the Secretary General in support of the Millennium Project’s “Quick Wins”

6 “Advocacy” is… a flexible and dynamic strategy, that supports and persuades and promotes positive change in society

7 “Advocacy” is not… a static theory an imposition an isolated action an opinion IEC (Information, Education and Communication)

8 Our Definition of “Advocacy” A strategy designed to change the actions of policies or programs of any type of institution. The aim of advocacy is to raise awareness and mobilize resources. No business as usual !

15 THE WAY FORWARD for Coalition Accelerate global information exchange and generate opportunities for further collaboration Support the strategies of existing “advocacy” neworks and build new ones Engage new emerging donors into the Coalition Collaborate on country level Advocate for new funding mechanisms and effective use of current mechanisms

16 Awareness Raising and Resource Mobilization Phase II Based on phase I strategies and successes: Scale up with current partners Expand to selected developing countries ( Integrate RH supplies into MDGs, PRSPs, and CSPs) Engage new emerging donor countries and Southern NGOs Support the implementation of the Essential Drug List process globally and nationally Monitor policies, programs, activities, funding

17 Supplies is a successful and tangible indicator and a hook for supporting sexual and reproductive health.
