1 Areas of Interest for Children to Follow – Nursery Rhymes/Autumn/ Christmas. Autumn 2014 Personal, Social and Emotional Development Leaving carer and settling into Nursery. Developing relationship with key person, and with this support, exploring the Nursery environment and becoming familiar with Nursery expectations and routines. Beginning to respond to the feelings and wishes of others, focusing on positive behaviour, turn taking and caring for others and for the Nursery environment. Begin to manage feelings and behaviour with support, stopping them from doing something they should not do. Staying safe (Things that go on or in our bodies/ when we are poorly/ bonfire night) SEAL – ‘New Beginnings‘ & ‘Say No to Bullying’ Physical Development Use a range of tools and equipment with increasing control, including jugs to pour, dough tools and mark making tools, appropriate scissors and threading activities. Beginning to draw circles and lines, beginning to use a 3 fingered grip when using mark making tools. Turn pages to look at books, and handle books with care. Run and stop safely. Develop confidence on Nursery play climbing equipment. Begin to put on own coat and help with clothing. Communication and Language Developing language use as a means of widening contacts, sharing feelings, experiences and thoughts. Sharing interest time to develop conversation skills Using simple questions and sentences. Listening and joining in with simple stories, songs and rhymes. Listening to and exploring different sounds. Literacy Share stories, rhymes and songs, beginning to establish some favourites. Join in with words & phrases from familiar stories, songs and rhymes. Talking about and handling books, holding them the right way up. Mark making in a wide range of contexts and media. Encourage children to begin to talk about marks they have made. Mathematics. Counting 1-5 and beyond through play and through number rhymes and songs. Matching 1-1 Beginning to count objects 1-3 Comparing quantities, developing language such as more, and a lot Beginning to recognise some numerals, especially those of personal significance. Colour recognition Beginning to use language of size. Beginning to sort objects using properties such as size, shape and colour. Understanding the World Beginning to make friends Through pretend play, explore actions and events from own family and culture. Explore and begin to notice detailed features of environment. Through pretend play with small world models, explore different aspects of the world. Explore a range of mechanical toys, and technological toys. Experience the touch screen computer and children’s digital camera within play. Harvest Stories from the Bible including Creation and the story of Noah. The Christmas story Judaism – Shabbat Begin to understand that we have similarities and differences to others yet we are all valued, unique and special. Expressive Arts and Design Join in singing favourite songs. Create sounds by banging, shaking, tapping/blowing, indoors and out. Explore the way that different musical instruments sound. Experiment with colours, blocks and mark making, including painting in a variety of ways, rubbings, cutting and sticking, stamping and printing, chalking and mixing. All children will be moved along the learning curve at their own rate and level through play and activities linked to their interests.
