1 The Importance of English in China Maybe you feel very strange and confused. Why does the teacher speak English in our class (in Ideological and Moral Education)? The economic globalization has demonstrated that all the continents and countries are not independent of each other. As the largest

2 developing country, China has been a new member of the WTO. It is facing great favorable chances and severe challenges from all the fields. And the urgent question of the times is whether we can seize the rare opportunities to develop productive force. As an international language, English has becoming so important in China now. Now we can use this common language to communicate with each other.

3 Secondly, China sponsored the APEC meetings successfully in Shanghai. Furthermore, the 2008 Olympic Games will be hosted in Beijing. Chairman Jiang Zeming and Vice-Prime Minister Li Lanqing chaired this two conferences in English. Thirdly, according to the investigation, the information about 95% from Internet is issued in English, only 0.14% in Chinese. If you only know

4 . Anyway, English is so important in China now, so it is a main task for everyone in China, especially for the young generation. To study English very well, we should improve our spoken English as much as we can.
