4 In this section we will be exploring the concept of human migration
What are some animals that migrate? Why do they migrate? In this section we will be exploring the concept of human migration

5 When humans and animals move from one place to another permanently.
What is MIGRATION When humans and animals move from one place to another permanently.

6 Where in the world did humans migrate?

7

8 Causes of Human Migration
Wars Why do humans move? What would cause a group of people to leave their home and move to a new area? weather Jobs Climate disasters Food Overpopulation

9 What is a biome? A natural community that has a certain climate and has certain plants and animals that live and adapt to the area.

10 How are biomes determined?
CLIMATE We group them according to latitudes. High Latitude include tundra, and alpine forest. Mid-Latitude biomes include grasslands and deciduous forests low latitude biomes include tropical rainforest, savanna, and desert.

11 HUMANS adapt everywhere!
How do we adapt? HUMANS adapt everywhere! We adapt to Biologically to their homes Climate Land culture

12 Group Poster Survival Skills Features
What are some skills needed for humans to survive in this biome? Features of your biome BIOME TYPE Where in the world is it? Illustration What regions of the world will you find your biome? Is it low, mid or high latitude.

13 Tropical Rain Forest Features: Dense Forests
Mosses, ferns, evergreen trees Hot and humid; moist Daily rain Lots of bird variety Reptiles, crocodiles, snakes, lizards Fish in nearby waters Insects

14 Desert Features: Shrubs and cactus plants Little to no rainfall
Springs and seasonal streams Sheep, snakes, lizards, owls, eagles, insects, and other birds Camels, tigers, bears.

15 Tundra Features: Rocky ground, no soil Permanently frozen Little Rain
Winter: Cold and dark Summer: Top frozen soil Reindeer, wolves, foxes, rabbits, oxen

16 Savanna Features: Rainfall not a lot Grassland, widely spaced trees
Dry season with frequent fires Kangaroos, lizards, snakes, hyenas, lions and panthers Beetles, termites, mice

21 BREAK

22 How do people plan together?
What behaviors and ways of living might early humans have brought with them when they began to migrate out of Africa? How do people plan together?

23 Around the same time that humans started migrating, Language had to have been developed.
It was a (Key) factor in the human development.

24 Origins of language part 1
Calls & Gestures Read the article quietly Box and Summarize Create and design a flow chart—any shape and flow you want Talking without Words Symbolic Thought Ancient Images Early Writing

25 Send me a Message!

26 Ponder over this! “Language was our secret weapon, and as soon as we got language we became a really dangerous people” Mark Pagel

27 Student handout: Origins of Language Part 2
Read the paragraphs Study the map Complete the summarization exercise Make sure you use the words in the WORD BANK

28 Student handout: Origins of Language Part 3
Read the paragraphs Think about this: Not all primates developed language. Based on what you just read, what do you think was different about these primate groups that did not develop language?

29 Advantages of kinship on language
Both language and social networks based on family, allowed hominids to share more ideas, tools and resources. With this, one group could help another group to solve a problem. This way they spread their learning and thinking over larger areas. As people migrated, they took these ideas with them and solved them when they encountered new problems.

30 EXTRA WORK

31 Student handout: Phonetic Clues Hint Language is Africa-Born
Read about when and where language was developed What is the most important information and how can you capture the main idea in fewer words that the author used? Look at the underlined sentences and summarize the article in your OWN words.
