OGC ® Met Ocean DWG final agendas Monday 28 Feb 09:00-10:00 (08:00-09:00 UTC) COVERAGE SESSION, SHARED INTEREST Basic Geoscientific Data Categories, Ben Domenico Web Coverage Services for the Military Environment, Jeremy Tandy Brief overview on the coverage specs and how to use them in O&M, based on the Earth Observation Application Profile, Peter Baumann & Stephan Meissl Monday 28 Feb 14:00-15:00 (13:00-14:00 UTC) Status and return of experience of the IEs, Marie-Françoise Voidrot Met Ocean DWG SLD/SE progress, Chris Little Updates on the proposals for standard terminology for describing TIME, briefly, Jeremy Tandy Wednesday 2 Mar 09:00-10:30 (08:00-09:30 UTC) Updates on the proposals for standard terminology for describing TIME, with more time, Jeremy Tandy Modernization of the Surface Observations Hub in Météo-France based on SWE standards, Yann Genin CSML v3, Dominic Lowe Phenomenon model work in the Met Ocean DWG, Dominic Lowe Wednesday 2 Mar 15:00-17:00 (14:00-16:00 UTC) Observations & Measurements in the Possible Futures - Or How to Solve the Irritating Time Problem for Forecast Data, Ilkka Rinne Conceptual modelling work including a plan for how we should move forward, Jeremy Tandy Discussions and conclusion

OGC ® Met Ocean DWG Agenda 3 sessions: 1 Monday, 2 Wednesday, 1 shared with WCS Various talks Progress reports –Conceptual Modelling –WMS IE –Portrayal Currently interacting and active with SWGs, DWGs –WMS, WCS, SLD/SE, O&M, CSW, SWE Common, etc –Aviation, Hydro, EDM, Coverage, Defence, etc (Un)Healthily busy Copyright © 2011 Open Geospatial Consortium

OGC ® Conceptual Modelling Actions Outlined plan of activity over next 12 months Solicit help to undertake activities identified within the plan Publish O&M profile for Meteorology (June 2011 - June 2012) Harmonize MeteorologicalFeature & WXXM2 generic weather models; migrate harmonized model into O&M Profile for Meteorology (May 2011) Develop case studies conforming to (evolving) O&M profile for Meteorology in conjunction with related projects: IMet-Ocean DWG & Hydrology DWG joint Interoperability Experiment, data management relating to entire water cycle (Sep 2011 - Mar 2012) Relate ISO/DIS 19156 O&M to ISO 19115 Geographic Metadata Encoding O&M WMO Table-Driven Data Representations GRIB & BUFR (Dec 2011) Copyright © 2011 Open Geospatial Consortium

OGC ® WMS IE Actions WMS IE Servers & Clients providers: Carbon Project ECMWF Geomatys HR Wallingford IBL/ UK Met Office KNMI Meteo-France NOAA/NWS, Norwegian Meteorological Institute Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK) University of Reading (UK) UCAR,uDig Community Some are Generic, some Met Ocean specific

OGC ® WMS IE Actions 2010 June - Informal simple plugfest No major problems (connectivity, timeouts, inconsistent response times) Layer Names are not always explicit Different styles for same data on different servers (Default style not explicit) –Good: user can easily identify the origin of the data –Bad: user might prefer consistency e.g. same colour backgrounds Have I got the correct TIME? Have I got the correct Projections? WYRIWYG “What You Request Is What You Get” WYSIWIBWAF 2011 June - Toulouse – another informal plugfest / IE More combinations: more servers, more clients Define validation procedure for Requests Define performance metrics

OGC ® WMS IE Actions Keep on testing Not high priority for our institutions Informal, to encourage contributions, identify what is feasible, no time constraint … More issues: –animations –getFeatureInfo –correspondance between map presentation & physical value Define basic styles for basic parameters (WMO) Feed twiki with experience: http://external.opengis.org/twiki_public/bin/view/MetOceanDWG/MetocWMS_WMS_IE_Retex http://external.opengis.org/twiki_public/bin/view/MetOceanDWG/MetocWMS_WMS_IE_Retex

OGC ® Portrayal Actions - Work in progress Make Met Ocean Symbologies & Layer Styles easily available –WMO Secretariat & Chair of relevant Expert Team agreed –Started comprehensive examples of WMO weather symbols ( –~400 GIFs  SVGs (120 on Wikimedia, 280 to go) Formalise WMO point / line / area styles, with Use Cases Help WMO establish formal digital ownership of the styles (registries, audit trail, etc) Create sample registry, with authoritative textual definitions Contribute to Portrayal and SLD/SE roadmaps, with Met Ocean priorities Engage other communities: DGIWG, EGOWS, WMO, ISO Excluded some work – out of scope or too soon More volunteers!

OGC ® Issues Need CRS SWG resuscitated Concerns about OWS Common - GetCapabilities/Filter Doing our own community based, more informal, IEs (no IPR, no money) Our community standards documents (Non-OGC) not readily accessible like OGC ones Copyright © 2011 Open Geospatial Consortium
