Pablo Picasso Life & Artwork

How he got interested Edvard Munch Henri de Toulouse -Lautrec Picasso first emerged as a Symbolist influenced by the likes of Edvard Munch and Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec. Which led him to his “Blue Period”. Influences from Paul Cézanne and Henri Rousseau, to archaic and tribal art - that encouraged Picasso to lend his figures more weight and structure around 1906. Picasso's immersion in Cubism also eventually led him to the invention of collage.

Getting Started… His father was also a painter who specialized in naturalistic depictions of birds and other game. For most of his life Ruiz (Picasso’s father) was a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum. From the age of seven, Picasso received formal artistic training from his father in figure drawing and oil painting. Ruiz Blasco

Education in Art? In 1892 the family moved to La Coruna, and a year after that Picasso was accepted into the school of Fine and Applied Arts. In 1895, he began to exhibit and sell his work on a small scale. The same year Picasso's seven-year old sister, Conchita, died of diphtheria—a is a traumatic event in his life. His father persuaded the officials at the academy to allow his son to take an entrance exam for the advanced class. This process often took students a month, but Picasso completed it in a week, and the impressed jury admitted Picasso, who was 13. Picasso's father and uncle decided to send the young artist to Madrid’s Royal Academy of San Fernando, the country's foremost art school in 1897, age 16.

Accepted Picasso was accepted. Spanish expatriate Pablo Picasso was one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, as well as the co-creator of Cubism.

Feeling His work on “time” makes me feel as if I'm in the painting because it’s so realistic and I can see the way the painting feels. It makes me in a way really sad because he’s waiting on someone in almost all of his paintings.

If I was the artist I would have made it so the man so he is looking out the window so that we could see that he was waiting for someone or something. I would of used a different setting as well. The moon would have been looking through the Window reflecting on his face. Other than that, I love the painting.

Experiences This piece reminds me of me playing my guitar waiting for my dad to show up and pick me up. But he never came, or was always late.

Art Work Information Painted in 1903, the Old Guitarist features a ragged old man hunched over his guitar on the streets of Barcelona, Spain. The Old Guitarist is an example of a work in what is referred to as Picasso's "Blue Period. The Blue Period is thought to represent a time in Picasso's life when he suffering from severe depression, brought on by the suicide of his close friend Carlos Casagemas.

“The Old Guitarist” The art work describes the title. He is an old man playing the guitar. He is extremely depressed and suicidal. The colors of the painting also represent that. I would rename it “Man who played his life away”

Relate to me? There was a point and time in my life where I was depressed.. And or suicidal. I wasn’t happy at all for awhile, and I was always alone and always pictures dark things/ colors.
