2 West Mercia YOS Work with young people aged 10-17 years that get into trouble with the law, are arrested, or taken to court, and help them stay away from crime.

3 YOS Case Manager. Undertakes assessments in relation to the needs of children and young people who have offended Prepares pre-sentence and other reports for the Courts and attends the Court as a representative of the YOS providing verbal or written information enabling the Courts to pass appropriate sentence. Is responsible for the management of a designated caseload and manages the supervision of offenders in the community by devising appropriate supervisory plans.

4 Case Manager Qualifications/Training It is essential that the post holder has: A professional qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Teaching or Probation or A degree in Youth Justice, Law, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology or Social Policy plus evidence of significant experience working with children, young people and families.

5 Assistant YOS Case Manager. In low risk cases undertake high quality assessments for young people referred to the YOS. In low risk cases undertake Pre-Sentence Reports and other reports for court. Attends court in support of the nominated YOS officer to ensure the YOS has a high quality and consistent representation at all youth courts. Is responsible for the management of a low/medium risk case load.

6 Assistant Case Manager Qualifications/Training It is essential that the post holder has: been educated to GCSE level or equivalent (at least 4 GCSEs including English) and a willingness to undertake the Youth Justice Effective Practice Certificate or a qualification relating to Youth Justice (e.g. Professional Certificate in Effective Practice); Social Work; Youth and Community Work; Education; Health; Probation; Policing.

7 Unspoken Person Spec Passion for working with young people. Sense of humour. Thick skin/not easily embarrassed. Stickability. Not easily surprised. Reliable. Manage your stress.

8 Volunteering Opportunities Volunteer Mentoring – 1:1 support for young people involved with the Youth Offending Service Referral Order Panel Member – sitting on a panel to work directly with the young person, holding them to account for their actions. To write and agree a contract to make reparation to the community or to the victim.
