Architecture Implementation Pilot – Capacity Building GEO XII, November 10, 2015 Date and time: Nov 9 at 09:00AM Lucia Lovison-Golob, PhD GEOSS-AIP CB Leader and Geospatial Director, Afriterra Foundation

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Once they are registered to GCI, data can be searched, accessed, discovered, integrated. Data from different sources and formats are converted through standards such as OGC, ISO TC211, W3C, web (through common, interoperable interfaces). Capacity Building AIP WG: addresses technical and (skills/knowledge) humans issues.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Capacity Building AIP8 – Best Practices Wiki Increased use of Github and standards services such as the OGC- Catalog Service for the Web (CSW).

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) AIP-CAPACITY BUILDING WG: promotes presentation of work done or ongoing that may have an impact on a region or group or topic. GEOCAB, NASA Capacity Building, AfriGEOSS, AmeriGEOSS Capacity Building (future presentation) and others.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) CAPACITY BUILDING—Strategies: Reaching out to different agencies/organizations and address their main concerns –capability building. Discussing geospatial standards – such as for metadata – ISO 19115 and TC211; for cataloguing CSW; for imaging WCPS. Automate registration of big data Develop web services related to the analysis of big data. Address concern of developing countries on CB.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Use Cases: Chile Disaster Risk Reduction Talcahuano 8.8 Earthquake and Tsunami, 27 February 2010 Copahue Volcanic Eruption -Latest dated May, October in 2013, 10-16 September 2014 (Servicio National de Geologia y Mineraria, Sernageomin, 2014) Iquique 8.1 Earthquake, 1 April 2014.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Participating entities in 2015: Chilean regional emergencies authorities, Centro Sismologico Nacional, Universidad de Chile, Universidad Tecnica Fernando Santa Maria and other Chilean universities. International participants: ConnectGEO, CNR, ESA, NASA, NOAA, USGS, IEEE, Afriterra Foundation.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Data are accessible, searchable and discoverable through metadata. SOA approach through interoperable GUIs, thanks to standards.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Sensors:

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) EO-1 satellite product and WPS 012-10-24T14:26Z EO1, Bahia San Vicente y Talcahuano testing area( NASA services, Stuart Frye, 2013) Copahue from ALI EO-1 image Of 21 October 2014, natural color image, Stuart Frye, 2014 Mashup SWIR image (band 8,9,10, ALI sensor) and pansharpening image, Copahue volcanic region. Image of 8 October, 2014. Lovison-Golob, 2014. 8.3 Illapel 16 September 2015- earthquake imagery from ALI EO-1 image of 19 September 2015, pansharpening, Stuart Frye, NASA Goddard, 2015.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Training and Geospatial SDI-AIP for regional experts involved in the land use of Chile was held on September 8-9, 2015, thanks to IDE- SNIT. A Chilean client apps has been developed: More tomorrow at the demo.

GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) Conclusions: 1- AIP- CB WG strength data sharing, apps development, increased collaboration, skills and knowledge of people. We identify areas were more capacity building efforts –such as capability building -- are needed. 2- AIP-GEOSS Capacity Building WG wants to integrate its effort with GEOSS-Capacity Building initiative (GEOCAB) and other initiatives. 3- AIP- Chile CB WG 2015 goals have all be met: it has been enlarged by theme (Valparaiso fires), geographically (more regions within Chile and Latin America), by sensors and by models (WPS). 4- AIP- Chile CB WG 2015, this year we are developing products (GEOSS- based application), more in the future regarding social media, IoT, cloud computing and data mining. 6- AIP- Chile CB WG 2015 has also highlighted the need to find business model(s) to make this effort sustainable.
