Good writers correctly use verbs when writing narrative and informational texts (expository writing). Good writers use a variety of verb tenses to make the writing more interesting. Read the importance and have students share other reasons Does anyone want to add anything? Call on non-volunteers and volunteers

Present Tense (occurs NOW or often) Past Tense (occurs sometime in past) Future Tense (occurs sometime in future)

4 Present Progressive Forms
The present progressive form of a verb expresses action or a condition that is continuing in the present. EX: Althea is finishing her song. The present progressive form consists of the helping verb am, are, or is and the present participle of the main verb. Formula: (appropriate) HV + present participle

7 Past Progressive Forms
The past progressive form of a verb expresses action or a condition that was continuing at some time in the past. EX: We were watching a scary show. The past progressive form consists of the helping verb was or were and the present participle. Formula: (appropriate) HV + past participle

11 Steps/Instructions Rewrite the sentence using the progressive form of the verb. If the verb is in the present tense, change it to the present progressive form. If the verb is in the past tense, change it to the past progressive form. If the verb is in the future tense, change it to the future progressive form. .
