Lift Station No. 1 and 2 Force Main Replacement Ronald Wastewater District Summer 2015

Lift Station No. 1 Site Several field visits were done during design by both CHS Engineers and District Staff to determine construction methods.

Storm Creek Crossing The creek crossing was the most critical area of construction due to the necessity of keeping the creek free of sewage and other materials during the construction process.

Lift Station No. 2 Site After the field visits were done, plans and specifications were started and the District reached out to Innis Arden to help with a public meeting.

Force Main Valves Locate During design, another field visit was needed to determine the location of the existing force main valves outside of Lift Station No. 1.

Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control and Force Main Bypass After design and the bidding process was completed, a contractor began work. The first step was protecting the existing site, especially the creek, and bypassing the existing force main.

Existing Force Main Removal Once the temporary force main was in operation, the existing force main connection and valves near Lift Station No. 1 were dug up and removed.

Existing Force Main Removal The contractor removed small portions of the existing force main by open cut trenching at both ends of the force main and at the creek crossing.

Installation of New Force Main The majority of the new force main was installed by pipebursting, which is a method of bursting the old pipe in the ground while pulling a new pipe in behind to fit in the same place.

Installation of New Force Main The pipebursting method was preferred by the District due to it being a trenchless method which kept the majority of the site undisturbed. The majority of the existing force main did not have to be dug up, only small holes at intervals.

Installation of New Force Main Portions of the new force main were also installed by open cut trenching such as the connection to Lift Station No. 1.

Installation of New Force Main Another portion of the new force main that was installed by open trenching was the creek crossing. First the creek was bypassed and then a larger diameter ductile iron pipe was placed under the creek to protect the new force main.

Installation of New Force Main After placing the larger diameter ductile iron pipe under the creek, the new force main was sliplined through it and the larger pipe was sealed around it.

Installation of Force Main Bends The last portion of the new force main to be installed by open cut trenching was the force main bends. At the bottom of the hill down from Lift Station No. 2, the new force main turns and goes up the hill.

Storm Creek Crossing After the new force main was installed and tested, the site was restored. Native plants were planted in October 2015.
