The body of Jews living in countries outside Israel. 3. Such countries collectively: the return of the Jews from the Diaspora. 4. Any group migration or flight from a country or region. Synonyms: dispersion, dissemination, migration, displacement, scattering. Antonyms: return. 5. Any group that has been dispersed outside its traditional homeland, especially involuntarily, as Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

20 The most obvious way to maintain power is through direct force (police, military, security). But this is imposing the values of those in power on the people, therefore takes significant effort and resources in the long term. Antonio Gramsci (Italian Marxist imprisoned during Mussolini’s rule) was impressed at how power was maintained without direct force. The values of those in power were adopted by the people through reinforcement of these values through education, media and religion. Under such circumstances, ideology becomes accepted as simply the way things are. Cultural imperialism – hegemony rather than force of arms
