On average women have between 5 and 7 children. The main economic activity is agriculture. Strong influence of the Catholic Church Good community organization. Lack of state services (basic school and road in bad conditions)

Page 4 Specific Objetive To generate evidence, data and learning to develop a care work strategy for the EJ Programme in Honduras, aimed at reducing and reallocating the workload related to unpaid household chores of women participating in WEL initiatives. To make proposals to overcome main barriers preventing women from participating in income- generating activities

Page 5 Findings Women’s caring work: 103 hours a week of tasks(some simultaneous) out of 150 hours in total (care + productive work), versus a total of 61 for men The most difficult and time-consuming caring tasks for women are food preparation (3-6 hours a day) and caring for children Caring work is carried out with support from family members (grandmothers & mothers in-law). Ideas and beliefs about gender roles and patterns of caring strongly based on religious principles. Would be very useful to an launch an awareness campaign with the community and its leadership.

8. Page 8 Proposals Advocate for an electricity power project to reduce the working time for women by 2-5 hours a day Redistribute caring work amongst all family members: there’s a range of opinions, some are willing and others are still sceptical. Set up a day-care service.

9. Page 9 Feedback on methodology and tools Facilitation: Pilot: 4 facilitators. The facilitators took turns conducting the exercises and taking notes. Recommended: 2 facilitators (1 woman, 1 man) are enough; Gender expert not required - general understanding and sensitivity around gender issues needed. Experience with participatory methods required. Adequate language and tone. Being clear and transparent with the community regarding the agenda and objectives is key. Debriefing sessions between facilitators and with participants and partners Timeframe: Pilot was 1.5 days. Ideal, 2 days. However, some people were unable to attend on day 2.
