6. Attention device/getter: p479  A tool used by speakers to grab the interest of the audience. These are the five most popular devices:  1. Humor  2. Quote  3. Stories or Personal Experiences  4. Rhetorical Questions  5. Startling Statements  Your attention getter must relate to your topic

7. State the thesis: p480  A thesis statement is a clearly written, simple sentence or question that states the point you expect to make in your presentation.  This single statement or question will guide your entire presentation.

8. Establish your ethos: p480  The point of the intro when you begin to establish credibility with your audience.  This is where you provide information on yourself, your specific expertise, or the research you have done on the topic
