Uniforms and “Bearing”
Any uniform or uniform accessory shall not “cause distraction from military bearing” or bring discredit to the United States Coast Guard or the United States of America “BUT WE’RE NOT IN THE MILITARY…” Even the back of our ID’s say “NON-MILITARY ID”

Why? We work side-by-side w/ C.G.
The public interprets our uniforms as C.G. Wear of the U.S.C.G. uniform is a privilege we are granted Pride in our uniform translates to pride in our work and commands respect from the regular C.G. and the public Vietnam-era Experience

Gig Line Different for Men/Women w/ C.G. Aux Emblem on buckle Ribbons and Medals Dirty Out of precedence (use Ribbon Checker) Not straight and/or centered above pocket Use of (many) single mounts for multiple ribbons Star Mounting

Shirt Pockets Shall be buttoned and empty unless carrying a pen in Working Blues or ODU’s Military Creases Authorized on Trops & CPO Shirt NOT authorized on Working Blues or ODU’s T-Shirts Gentlemen MUST wear V-necks under Trops & Working Blues - Crew neck blue under ODU’s Men’s Trops have pen holder

Long Sleeve Light Blue Shirt Is NOT a Tropical Blue Shirt w/ long sleeves Normally worn UNDER Service Dress Blue Jacket with Service Dress Blue Bravos (w/ Shoulder Boards and 4-in-hand or Tab Tie) Ribbons, Devices, Name Tags are NOT authorized) If Shoulder Boards are NOT worn, SDB Jacket must remain on Are actually Undress Blues when worn w/ Work Trousers (if also worn w/ Name Tag & Device)

Working Blue (Utility) Trousers are NOT authorized for wear w/ Tropical Blue Long Baseball Caps are NOT authorized for wear w/ Tropical Blue Longs (for Auxiliarists) Necklaces May be worn but must NOT be visible Rings One ring per hand Wedding/Engagement set counted as one ring

Hair Not below bottom of shirt collar Pony tails ARE authorized Earrings Single “Studs” in diamond, white (natural) pearl, gold or silver round “balls” from 1/8” to 1/4” Fingernails Neutral Colors - No nail-art 1/4” past finger tips, maximum

Hosiery Normally Black Socks with Oxfords-Trousers Black or Flesh Color hose may be worn w/ Pumps-Trousers or Flats-Trousers (including knee-highs) Flesh color hose worn with Skirt Skirt may be worn w/ Oxfords (ugh!) or Pumps :-) Pump heels shall be no higher than 2 5/8” Flat Wedge w/ sole rising 1” is authorized

Boat Crew Uniform Many Variations w/ Light Blue (Short Sleeve) Shirt
w/ Working Blue (Long OR Short Sleeve) Shirt w/ AVL Gray Polo Shirt w/ ODU’s (Tops and Trousers together) w/ Blue T-Shirt (under ODU’s) With Tilley OR Ball Cap Shorts or “Longs” ALL Shorts require white socks (unless w/ Boots/ODU’s) ALL Longs - black socks

Operational Dress Uniform
Complete Uniform ODU Top ODU Trousers ODU Belt (subdued black buckle and tip) CG Blue crew neck T-shirt Optional Super Boots (black steel-toed) Boat shoes ARE authorized Blousing Bands if wearing boot

Operational Dress Uniform
Require sew-on Name Tape and sew-on “USCG Auxiliary” Tape May use sew-on or standard metal (pin-on) collar devices ODU Long Trousers may be cut off for shorts ODU Top sleeves may be rolled up or not ODU Top may be removed for extreme heat conditions (revealing blue T-shirt)
