2 An Introduction The Council for the IEEE Malta Section was set up on January 8 th 2007, following a call for nominations in the December 2006. There are 9 members in the council (as at October 2007), of which 4 hold an executive role. Their term ends on the 31 st December 2008.

4 IEEE Membership in Malta The IEEE Malta Section has in total 185 active members: 0 Fellows 2 Senior Members 1 Life Member 77 Members 9 Associate Members 12 Affiliates 84 Student Members

5 April 2008 Region 8 Committee Meeting (i) Shall be held in Malta between 25 th and 27 th April 2008 at the Le Meridien St Julian’s – this hotel is situated within the grounds of a 19th century Maltese villa on the seafront of picturesque Balluta Bay.

6 April 2008 Region 8 Committee Meeting (ii) Malta and its sister island, Gozo, together with little Comino are situated in the middle of the Mediterranean.

7 April 2008 Region 8 Committee Meeting (iii) The Maltese Islands have a population of 375,000 people. The Maltese Islands are just 60 miles from Sicily, and 180 miles from Tunisia. Malta's history and language is more easily understood given its position, which up to the Second World War was considered as strategic.

8 April 2008 Region 8 Committee Meeting (iv) Malta has several of the oldest known temples in the world still standing and in an excellent state of preservation.

9 April 2008 Region 8 Committee Meeting (v) It was inhabited since the earliest times and occupied by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, French, and English. Malta was the official home of the Knights of the Order of St.John (a.k.a. the Knights of Malta).
