3 KEY VOCABULARY Ecologists Evidence Eutrophic of a lake or other body of water, rich in nutrients and so supporting a dense plant population, the decomposition of which kills animal life by depriving it of oxygen. Background Information about Lake Victoria Lake Victoria is surrounded by three countries: Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. The ownership of the lake is divided among the three as follows: Tanzania has 49%, Uganda has 45%, and Kenya has 6%. The lake itself has an area of 26,830 square miles, which is nearly the size of the state of West Virginia. It is the second largest lake in the world (Lake Superior, one of the Great Lakes, is the largest). Despite its size, it is a shallow lake of less than 300 feet at its deepest point.
