4 2015 OWL Calendar 7 Consecutive Sunday nights in the Youth Room, except for 1 holiday weekend (Columbus Day) 10/4- 6pm-9pm Pizza party double opening session 10/18- 7:00-9pm 10/25-7:00-9pm 11/1-7:00-9pm 11/8-7:00-9pm 11/15-7:00-9pm 11/22-7:00-9pm

5 OWL Program Goals The overall goal of the Our Whole Lives Program is to create a positive and comprehensive lifespan educational program that helps participants gain the knowledge, values, and skills they need to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives.

6 How current is the material? We have incorporated the topics of social media, alcohol and drugs into the program We use current events/music as examples: ie: UVA Rape Case, “Talking Body” by Tove Love We will be using more media ie: video clips from TV and Movies that are visual examples of the content we are teaching We have a 22 year old church member assisting us

7 Program Values Self Worth-Everyone is entitled to dignity and to his/her own beliefs about sexuality Sexual Health- Everyone has the right to accurate information about sexuality and to have his/her questions answered Responsibility- All persons have the right and obligation to make responsible sexual decisions Justice and Inclusivity- People of all ages, races, genders, backgrounds, income levels, physical and mental abilities and sexual orientations must have equal value and rights. Sexual relationships should never be coercive or exploitive.

8 Curriculum 10/4-Session One: Sexual Health-Learning About Our Bodies WS 1- Language WS 3- Anatomy and Physiology WS 27- Images of Love and Sex in Music and Video

9 10/18-Session Two: Sexuality and Social Issues WS 38- Gender Equality Social Media, Instagram, Snapchat Alcohol /Drug use/Date Rape Media Images Ohio/UVA Rape case articles for discussion to cover all these topics

10 10/25-Session Three: Sexual Health-Making Safer Choices* WS 6- AIDS and other STD’s WS 7- Contraception WS 8- Condoms and negotiating for Safer Sex Planned Parenthood will present the material for this session

11 11/1-Session Four: Building Healthy Sexual Relationships-Communication and Intimacy WS 21-Verbal and Nonverbal Communication WS 22-What Makes a Good Relationship? WS 24- Defining Intimacy

12 11/8-Session Five: Building Healthy Sexual Relationships- Recognizing Unhealthy Ones WS 23-Questions of the Other Gender WS 28- Power and Responsibility WS 29- Power in Relationships WS 30-Breaking Up and Moving On
