12 Democracy -republics-- rule by the consent of the people -democracy -direct democracy-a form of government where each citizens has an actual say in the affairs of government -representative democracy-a form of government where citizens elect representatives to make decisions for them

17 Authoritarian -dictatorship-Type of government that is usually controlled by one person who allows very little freedom or opposition -totalitarianism-Form of government where little freedom or opposition is allowed -oligarchy-Government that is ruled by a small group of people

20 POSTCARDS FROM A DICTATORSHIP! Pretend that you are visiting North Korea or Cuba (two of the few remaining dictatorships in the world). Create a postcard to send back home telling a friend or family member what things you have seen or experienced while in the country visiting. Your postcard should have a relevant picture on the front along with addresses just like a real postcard. It should also have a section of writing that includes four pieces of factual information about life in one of these 2 countries. Facts should answer some of the following questions… What freedoms do citizens have? What freedoms do citizens not have? What powers does the government have?
