3. The War Begins  George Washington brings a letter to the French demanding they leave the Ohio River Valley. –French refuse.  Washington launches attack from Fort Necessity, but loses.

5. Native Americans Involvement  Though many are divided, most Native Americans choose to side with the French. –Better trade relations –French developed friendly relationships with Natives –Most thought French would win

6. Events of French and Indian War  Britain loses many of the early battles.  William Pitt becomes Prime Minister of England. –Under his leadership, England begins to turn the tide.

7. War Comes to an End  Britain overtakes the Ohio River Valley and now looks to take over French territories in Canada.  Britain has victories in Quebec and Montreal, which ends the war.

8. o Britain gained Canada and all of the French land east of the Mississippi River.  Spain gave up Florida to Britain.  England now has a lot of DEBT from the war. Treaty of Paris was signed in 1763

17. Townshend Acts 1767  Tax on glass, lead, paper, paint and tea  Colonist smuggle goods, boycott British goods, and fight with British troops

Boston Massacre   The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British soldiers on March 5, 1770.   It was the culmination of civilian-military tensions that had been growing since royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts in October 1768 to enforce the heavy tax burden imposed by the Townshend Acts.
