Example 1: Employee receives range elevation, SSI counter would be reset using the new base rate and the Last SSI Qualified Date would be changed to the effective date of the range elevation. Example 2: Employee receives SSI, counter would decrement by one and date would be changed to the effective date of the SSI. The date 1/1/1901 is used in this field when an employee has received the maximum number of 8 SSIs, but is not at SSI Max. This will flag that the person should be at SSI ‘0’ but still not be at SSI Max.

The FMI allows an employee to exceed SSI Max by the amount of their FMI. Retirement – If an employee retirees, the FMI amount is no longer considered in calculating the SSI Counter. FERPs are an exception. Once a FERP completes the FERP assignment and is hired as a Rehired Annuitant, then the FMI is no longer considered.
