2 Personal Information Thomson was born on the 26 th of July in 1824 in Belfast Ireland. Kelvin was a 19 th century physicist which showed how to the use the absolute scale of temperature. Thomson was made professor in 1846 of the natural philosophy at Glasgow. On December 17, 1907 Lord Kelvin died at the age of 83.

4 Career and Contributions William is responsible for the Kelvin Temperature Scale. William taught at Cambridge University for 53 years. During the course of William’s career he managed to write 661 papers, acquired 69 patents, and gained recognition in nearly every branch of physical science.
