With this information, can you make any connections to our world today? WIO: Rank the religions we discussed in class today based on which one appeals to you the most. Confucius believed that with out human relationships, there would be no self. The Five Relationships Ruler to Subject  Father to Son  Elder Brother to Younger Brother  Husband to Wife  Friend to Friend

12 Confucianism Cont’d People have to warrant the respect and power that comes with their positions in life. Power and respect are not a given, they must be earned. He believed that if everyone followed the five ideals, even just one person the effect would be wide spread. Through that person’s family, community, nation, and the world.

13 Taoism (Daoism) Lao Tzu Father of Taoism Believed in The Way:
Three Ways

To big for anyone to comprehend. The Way of the Earth. The norm, the rhythm, and the driving power in all of nature. The Way of Human Life To fit in with the universe.

15 Ying-Yang The Taoist believe in opposites, and that things in nature have a way of working themselves out. Ying-Yang represents balance in life.

16 Buddhism The Four Noble Truths 1. Suffering is a part of life
2. Suffering comes from wants and desires 3. To be happy, one must free themselves from wants and desires 4. To achieve this, follow the eightfold path

17 Legalism & Nationalism
Legalism Chinese belief that focuses on strict obedience of the law Nationalism Strong self belief and pride in one’s country. In America, we call this Patriotism. In China, they were isolated geographically and built a man made wall to further isolate.

18 Homework You will choose one of the dynasties or religions we discussed in class today. You will create a picture reflecting the topic you chose. If you chose religion, you must have information about their main beliefs. Be creative and use color. You will need to have 3-4 pieces of evidence, or information to support your topic choice.
