What is yoga? Yoga is not just an exercise it’s a lifestyle for some people. Yoga helps you have better mind power, your body will feel stronger, and you will not be out of breath as easier (Nemours). Yoga is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine with origins in ancient Indian philosophy. The various styles of yoga that people use for health purposes typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. ("Yoga [NCCAM Health Information].“)

How was yoga started? Yoga was started in India. Yoga began around 3,000 years ago in India. (Nemours). Early written descriptions of yoga are in Sanskrit, the classical language of India. The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means "yoke or union." It is believed that this describes the union between the mind and the body. The first known text, The Yoga Sutras, was written more than 2,000 years ago, although yoga may have been practiced as early as 5,000 years ago. (Yoga [NCCAM Health Information].“)

How can yoga help you relieve stress? You can’t avoid all stress, but you can counteract its negative effects by learning how to reverse the relaxation response, a state of deep rest that is the polar opposite of the stress response. The relaxation response brings your system back into balance: deepening your breathing, reducing stress hormones, slowing down your heart rate and blood pressure, and relaxing your muscles. ("Relaxation Techniques for Stress Relief “) Yoga can reduce muscle tension that is often associated with stress, helping you to become more relaxed and relieve associated pain. Yoga can help with sleep. Getting a good nights' sleep is sometimes difficult when your stressed. Yoga can calm your body and your mind to help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep. Does yoga have a bigger impact on teens or adults and why? Yoga is for all ages really but has different effect on different age groups. For teens yoga is encourage to do it at least 15mins a day. Yoga will help teens improve their blood circulation and their lung capacity. Overall their body posture will improve and overall energy is boosted. The stretches brought about by the different poses will have a toned body. ("Yoga For Teens.") For adults it is also recommended to do yoga because it will help you stay active and less chance to get arthritis. Yoga helps with mental focus, physical strength, and balance and coordination. How does yoga relieve back pains for teenagers? The best way to heal back pains are to do a few different exercise that involve yoga, swimming and weight training, they will be the two best exercise that will help your back. Having the correct posture will help your back heal faster. Target the muscles that are in pain and tight by stretching carefully. Choose an exercise program that is not too intense. Slowly increase the stretches and strengthening exercises to prevent aggravation in the spine. ("Yoga for Back pain“) One of the primary causes of back pain is muscle tension. Many people are tight in places that affect the spine, such as the hips and shoulders. As you work through yoga poses, your muscles will stretch and loosen up in areas where they were previously tense. These are muscles you may not often use, and yoga stretches these muscles to help them un tense. Yoga stretches may be enough for people whose back pain is directly related to stress or poor posture. How does yoga help teens choose healthier foods? Food can have a positive and negative effect on your body. There are 16 different Categories of food that the ancient Indians maid, ten of them are classified as wastage, five of them effect the mind and one part is vital for the mind. (Iyengar 178). Yoga promotes a positive body image that encourages you to make healthier food choices. When you practice yoga consistently, you also become more aware of hunger and satiety questions. How does yoga benefit teens health? Yoga can relieve Anxiety- doing yoga several times a week helps reduce stress. 13% of young teens have anxiety (Comeau). Asthma-doing yoga why you have Asthma it will reduce the need of taking medicine. (Mayo 101). It has also been proved that asthma attacks can usually be prevented by yoga methods without resorting to drugs. ("Yoga and Asthma.“) Back pain-yoga can reduce back pains for several months. (Mayo 101). Strengthens your core: Yoga involves using the weight of your own body to build muscle. With the abdominal muscles being continually engaged, the back is strengthened and posture is improved. ("Yoga for Health”)

Why do some people think yoga is bad for you? Some people say that yoga is bad for you when you stretch because sometimes the teacher is stretching and the student is trying to keep up and could stretch to much and pull something. The teacher not correcting the position of the student and they will not be getting the full effect they should so they wouldn’t like it. ("Is Yoga Bad for the Knees?) Some positions can put significant stress on your lower back and on your joints If you have high blood pressure, a risk of blood clots, glaucoma, osteoporosis, and if your pregnant you want to be careful to put pressure on your stomach (Mayo 102).
