Nursing: A Glimpse into What’s Coming

Trends  Added tasks  Innovative and potent medicines  Clearly defined accountability  Being familiar with how the medicines work  Improved and up to date technology  Placing computers inside patient’s rooms to enable easy access of information  Speaker notes:  The convenience of computers has invaded the medical community. Nurses now have a choice to access information about the patient right beside the patient’s bed. This enables them to look for additional info that will ensure safety for the patient such as any possible allergic reaction to a prescribed medication. This makes caring for patients easier as well as giving the nurses liability for the administration of the drugs.

Philosophy of Nursing  Hygienic surroundings  Take into account the effects of waste in the environment  Sense of well being/ Condition of the mind  Knowing the power of the mind and how it affects the whole feeling of well being  Body movements / Nourishing food  Exercise and nutritious food for longevity  Speaker notes: Having cleans surroundings is essential in a medical facility because of a patient’s sensitivity to infections, allergies etc. It adds to the general feeling of being well if the thoughts are positive. Nutritious food and body movements combined will make the patient live a fuller life.

Functions  Present position  Public education regarding infectious diseases and providing meaningful care to the patients.  Direct care  Provide exemplary patient care  Indirect care  Facilitate teamwork to reach the goal  Speaker notes:  Nurses have to keep up with the latest trends on patient care, innovative and aggressive treatments for different illnesses and support a healthy lifestyle for all. They should be able to provide healthcare for patients and guide them towards recovery from their illnesses. Teamwork is very important as each member of the healthcare group must work towards a common goal.

Boost efficiency for the Future  Courses for Nurses  The BSN program should be accomplished in minimum of 10 years  Salary  Provide higher compensation rate  Inspiration  Schedules should be plotted on a weekly basis  Speaker notes:  The BSN should be finished by a nurse not exceeding 10 years after they got their ADN. This will enable them to demand for a higher and more competitive compensation. Giving nurses a stable weekly schedule helps in keeping them inspired to go to work.

Enhanced Quality Care  Level of Education  BSN to be completed for every nurse  Level of care  Improved quality of care for patient to be release earlier  Speaker notes:  Nurses are encouraged to keep up with the changes and to complete their education to ensure that the care given to patients are of the highest quality. The aim is to get patients released at an earlier time if possible.

Vision for the Future The prospects and opportunities in nursing are very promising especially for those who have completed the higher level of education and are handling nursing leadership positions. The ultimate goal of nursing is to encourage patients to have a change towards a healthy lifestyle for longevity.
