Thursday, November 12 at 12:01 am  How do I register for classes?  MyMadison https://mymadison.jmu.eduhttps://mymadison.jmu.edu  You will register on your own.  Ask in advance if you need help.  Go see JoAnn or the MAPs if you have questions!

6 Enrollment Dates & Deadlines  Add & Drop Deadline  Last day to make changes to your schedule  Withdraw with a “W” grade  Last day to get out of a class  “W” has no impact on your GPA  Remember: you must stay enrolled in at least 12 credits to be full time

7 JMU Graduation Requirements 41 General Education ?? Major Courses ?? Degree Requirements ?? Electives + 120 credits* *120 is the minimum number of credits you must complete to earn a bachelor’s degree. The total number of credits required may be more than 120, depending on your major and whether you do a double major, minor or a pre-professional program.

12 Holds  Holds = service indicators  A way JMU alerts you to something important  Holds may be positive or negative  Positive Student Indicator – Display All visa-holding international students  Negative Service Indicator Withhold all services = unpaid bills or parking tickets No transcript or diploma

15 Add/Drop/Swap  Add a class: Put a class on your schedule.  Also called enroll/enrolling or register/registering.  Drop a class: Take a class off your schedule.  Also called unenroll/unenrolling.  Swap a classes: Drop a class and add a class at the same time (simultaneously).  Kind of like trade/trading classes.

16 Prerequisites  A class you must take before you take another class or  A requirement you must meet before you take a class.  Look in the catalog and/or MyMadison Catalog: MyMadison:

17 Corequisites  Corequisite: A class that must be taken in the same semester as another class.  Look in MyMadison or the catalog  Ex: This section of ISCI 104 has a co-requisite of ISCI 101, Section 1  When registering for classes with a co-requisite, make sure BOTH classes are in your shopping cart before enrolling

18 Course Topics  Specific class topics (ISCI 104, KIN 100, HUM 252)  Topic is the class section’s focus  Read the class description in MyMadison

19 Open/Closed/Wait List Classes  Number of seats available  Green circle = open, seats available  Blue square = closed, no seats  Yellow triangle = wait list, may be a seat if someone drops

20 Overrides  Permission to join a class that is already full or for which you do not meet the prerequisite.  Override procedures are different in different departments.  Students should watch for an email with details of overrides.  If you are granted an override for a course, you must ENROLL in the class via MyMadison!  The override does NOT automatically enroll you in the class.

23 Tips for International Students  Enroll and stay enrolled for 12 credits all semester  If you must drop a class, talk to someone!  Your academic advisor  International Students and Scholars Office  It may be possible to receive permission to drop below full time status (only for very limited reasons)  Work authorization is needed for internships  You must update your I-20 if you...  change your major  stay at JMU longer than the program end date
