Outcomes  In our world which is full of technology, successfully developing multimedia presentations is an important skill for school and work.  The media you choose to represent your ideas can either enhance your message or cloud your message.  When chosen with thought, multimedia can help you think critically about the message you are presenting and further enable idea linking, content revision, and dynamic choices for representing your understanding. 3. Outcomes  View, interpret, summarize, and draw conclusions about the ideas and information presented in a variety of illustrations, charts, graphs, and television, film, and video. CRA 10.2  Explain and present to a familiar audience the key ideas and events (actual or based on a text studied) through an appropriate combination of charts, diagrams, sound, models, drama, and print. CCA 10.2  Establish and apply criteria to evaluate own and others’ work. ARA 10.1 When you are finished this lesson, you should be able to meet these outcomes.

4. Understandings  As you complete this unit, keep in mind the understandings found on the next slide. These understandings are to help guide you not only through this lesson but in the future. 5. Understandings  Effective viewers use specific strategies to help them interact with and understand text.  Texts are carefully crafted to address specific audiences for specific purposes.  Effective evaluation involves goal setting, adaptations, and supportive feedback. Life-Long Learning

6. Context  On the first slide of this unit you will notice the context was identified as Mysteries of This World and Beyond. This means as we study various texts, they will all have something to do with these mysteries. As you interact with each text, you should be making connections to this context. Get Set...  In this lesson we will study examples of multimedia presentations which demonstrate ways our imaginations can carry us beyond the borders of the everyday world and apply what we have learned in previous lessons to evaluate those presentations. Finally, we will create a multimedia presentation according to given criteria. Lesson

What Is Multimedia?  Media is plural for medium : a form of communication such as written text, audio, still images, animation, video, or interactivity for example.  Often, television, newspapers, and radio are referred to as the media. These types of media can reach large numbers of people.  Multimedia is using more than one medium to communicate. For example, including audio and/or interactivity. Lesson

10. Assignment 1 You are going to view the following videos. After you have finished viewing complete the after viewing handout. 11. Assignment 2 When we look at different types of multimedia we sometimes find ourselves judging or critiquing the work. Well now it is your chance to look at a few examples and give a complete critique. Below are three examples of different types multimedia. After you have viewed them complete the Critique strategy on the bottom. Example 1 Example 2 Example 3 Multimedia Critique NOW hand everything into your instructor for feedback! Assignment

12. Assignment 3 Now its your turn. Go out into your community and take two pictures of multimedia examples. Once you have done this complete the Multimedia Critique for both. (if you do not have a device that can take pictures, talk to your instructor and arrange something else) Multimedia Critique STOP! Hand this in to your instructor and wait before you go on. 13. It Could Happen Tomorrow! You and your friends are watching “Monsters Week” on Animal Planet when they announce a contest. The rules of the contest are as follows;Monsters Week Contestants will submit an original piece of work(multimedia works) that depicts one of the monsters they feature or other animals studied in Cryptozoology. This work must include; two or more mediums, Describe the creature in detail, describe where this creature has been spotted.Cryptozoology Also, this multimedia spot must create interest in the topic and be pleasing to the eye. As all contests do, this contest has a due date. No more that two weeks to send in your entry. With entry form. Assignment

14. Assignment 4 Performance tasks involve you taking on a role and writing for a specific purpose. The following acronym, GRASPS, will help you figure out what you are to do. G oal: To create a Multimedia Presentation that Wins a contest with Animal Planet. R ole: Contest Contestant A udience: Viewers of Animal Planet and other channels Animal Planet advertises on. S ituation: You want to be the winning contestant who submits an original piece of work(multimedia works) that depicts one of the monsters Animal Planet features on Monster Week or other animals studied in Cryptozoology.
