Why fund arts & culture in a rural/suburban region? In a rapidly changing environment the access to arts&culture is a crucial element in the process of identity-building within the various communities. Creative / talented people can play an important role in this process. Culture = practice of the identiy of individuals or communities Art = questioning or even challenging identities

Kulturstiftung des Kantons Thurgau Two main agencies: Kulturamt des Kantons Thurgau part of the Department of Education and Culture -6 museums, cantonal library, archive -performance agreements (theatre ensembles, orchestras, choirs, etc.) -socio-culture -individual grants -funding of projects +/- 25 Mio CHF /year Kulturstiftung des Kantons Thurgau funded by the government with 11Mio CHF independent in its decision-making Kulturstiftung is mandated: to support artistic creation within the canton to promote the dissemination of contemporary culture and the cultural exchange in national and international contexts to contribute to the cultural life in the canton with own programmes and initiatives
