Design a procedure to answer a scientific question. Compare and contrast Independent and Dependent variables. 09/17/2014

Reminders Wednesday, Sept. 17: Experimental Design worksheet Thursday, Sept. 18: Science Buddies Activity Friday, Sept. 19: QUIZ – Scientific notation and Unit conversions

Additional Reminders Make better, detailed, quality observations. Support all answers with evidence! Team Work!

Calculate the Volume: 10 cm 5 cm 2 cm V = L * H * W V = 10 cm * 5 cm * 2 cm V = 100cm 3

Lab: Volume Comparison Questions: When we vary the volume of water (cm 3 ) inside geometric cubes, how does the volume of the water in the graduated cylinder change? What is the relationship between cm 3 and mL?

In your teams… Work together to design a procedure that will answer these two questions. Materials: – 3 geometric cubes – 1 graduated cylinder – 1 ruler Collect the data in an appropriate table. Display your findings in a graph. At least 3 data points.

By the end of today… DUE: 1 Procedure per team We will perform the lab tomorrow.

Sample Data Table Cube # L (cm)H (cm)W (cm)V (cm 3 ) Volume of Cylinder (ml)
