12 Summer Research Experience (SRE)

13 8-week summer program that exposes community college students to research Selected participants placed in a lab with a faculty mentor Students earn a $5,000 stipend Students submit a research paper and present their findings at the Summer Research Symposium Research experience provides CSUF recognition, eases transfer transition and exposure to other STEM majors Program Specifics

23  Understanding the uniqueness of each Community College (CC)  Modifying the grant program requirements for the CC  Establishing the Peer Mentor program at each CC  All Directors at CSU and CC were not involved in writing the grant Issues & Challenges at California State University

24  Collaborative effort  In addition to Collaboration Council meetings, community colleges met to share best practices  Grant served as springboard for additional programs made possible for students  Students better prepared in STEM majors due to the collaboration  Students who participated in our programs transition better to CSUF Far More Positives Than Negatives
