1 Astronomy Review So Far…
For Astro Check 2 If I were you…I’d have all my worksheets out as well as some paper to write on (and maybe even study…)

2 Scaling A model earth is 8 cm in diameter. Calculate:
the diameter of the model moon (e ÷ 4 = m; 8 ÷ 4 = 2 cm) the diameter of the model sun (e x 109 = s; 8 x 109 = 872 cm) the distance between the earth and moon (30 x e = e to m; 30 x 8 = 240 cm) the distance between the earth and sun (12,000 x e = e to s; 12,000 x 8 = 96,000 cm)

3 SEM System Draw and describe the specific motions within the Sun-Earth-Moon system that cause: day and night on earth (earth’s rotation: face sun = day; face away = night) one year on earth (earth’s revolution / orbit around sun) eclipses of the sun (solar) and moon (lunar) (moon’s revolution / orbit around earth) an approximate month on earth

4 (solar eclipse = new; lunar eclipse = full)
Moon Phases Describe what causes moon phases. (as the moon orbits earth, we see a different portion of the lit up side of the moon) Draw the position of the sun, earth and moon during these moon phases: Identify the moon phase(s) during which an eclipse may occur. (solar eclipse = new; lunar eclipse = full)

5 SEASONS Revolution and Earth’s tilt are responsible for seasons
Winter shadows are longer than summer shadows - in winter the sun stays closer to the horizon because the NH is tilted away from the sun and receives indirect light, also making it cooler Spring Summer Winter Fall

6 Models Explain the pros (realistic) and cons (unrealistic)
of the following labs / models: modeling the motions of the SEM system (P: see from perspectives; C: objects / space) scaling the solar system (P: relative size / distance; C: objects / space) moon phase lab(s) – on yellow board or in hand (P: moon orbit /phases; C: sun moved / moon shaded)

7 (the mass and the distance between the objects)
Gravity What invisible force holds space objects in orbit? (gravity) The Law of Universal Gravitation is based on what two things? (the mass and the distance between the objects) Draw a diagram to clarify what would happen to a planet if it weren’t affected by gravity based on The Law of Inertia.

8 Modeling Using the models of the earth, moon and sun provided, complete the modeling worksheet.
