2 We live in Hungary, in the middle of Europe. This is a small country, but there are rules and symbols, and very tasty foods here.

3 Foods: gulash soup is a typical Hungarian dish. It’s very fatty. There are many vegetables and meat in it. - stuffed cabbage with sour cream - hot pot dishes

4 Weather: Hungary is in the continental climate, and has a rather low rainfall. In winter there is snow everywhere and the temperature falls under zero. It is dangerous to drive in this season, because the roads are slippery. Spring is the most rainy season, but the temperature gets warm. There is smell of flowers everywhere because the nature awakes. The summer is hot and the rain is not common but there are very big rainfalls in this year. Autumn is colourful. Leaves on the trees become red, brown and yellow. You can harvest fruit for example apples and grapes. School children aren’t very keen on this season because they have to say goodbye to the summer holiday.

5 Sports: we are good at water sports. Our water polo team is the best in the world. We are good at swimming. We are good at handball, kayak, canoeing and pentathlon. We are getting better and better at football.

6 Interesting facts: Budapest is the capital of Hungary. The 8th most populous country in the EU. There are three parts of this city: Óbuda, Buda and Pest. This is world city from the 20th century. There are many famous sights here. For example: Várnegyed: this is on the Várhegy. There were many wars in here but in 1960 people rebuilt it. Andrássy street: the street is named after Andrássy Gyula, who was a President. This is a 2310 meters long street. This is the part of the world heritage. Square of Heroes: this is the biggest square in IX. kerület. The Millenium, the Szépművészeti Museum and the National Museum are near the square.

7 Debrecen: the second biggest city in Hungary. This is a city of universities. The capital of Hajdú-Bihar country. Pécs: the capital of culture. Hundreds of years ago the Turkish were the owners of Pécs. The Dzsámi and the Minarett are in the centre of Pécs and these old buildings remind us the Turkish times.

8 Greetings: Hungarian men shake hands, every time they meet, women do it just for first time. At school friends usually give a hug or kisses to each other. We always say Good morning or Good afternoon at that time of the day. The Hungarians are very welcoming and hospitable, we think many of them are helpful. and kind.

9 Rubik cube: this is a logical toy. Actually it is a colorful cube, and you can make it well, when you put the same colours to the same side.

10 Szent-Györgyi Albert invented the C-vitamin. Semmelveis Ignác discovered one of the most important things in the medical science. He said people had to wash hands between two operations, that’s why people called him the “Mothers’ saviour”.

11 There are 3 big porcelain factories in Hungary. The Zsolnay Hollóházi Herendi

12 There are some famous Hungarian cartoons. For example: Vuk, Kukori és Kotkoda, A nagy Ho-ho- ho-horgász, Frakk a macskák réme, TV Maci.

13 Symbols: Every Hungarian city has a different symbol, which discriminates them from each other. All countries have a symbol, what’s more our and other countries have a symbol too. Hungarian Coat of arms We have got ten National Parks. For example: The Aggeteleki Nat i onal Park and we can find a beatutiful and big dipstone cave. There is a huge plain in the Hortobágy National Park. People keep traditional animals here. The Nine-Hole Bridge is here.

14 We pay with forint. The biggest banknote is the 20 000 Ft. We have changes and banknotes. „You are the best thing that’s ever been mine.”

15 Balaton is the biggest lake in Hungary. It is 77 kilometres long. Hungarian people gave another name to the Balaton: the Hungarian sea. Many tourists come here from other countries too, because the area of the Balaton is beautiful, the sights are famous and the lake is very popular. For example: we can find Tüskevár here.
