So what WAS the underground railroad? The Underground Railroad, was a vast network of people who helped escaped slaves from the South of the USA to reach the safety to the North and Canada.

When was the underground railroad? From late 18 th Century through to the abolition of slavery in the United States of America in 1865

Rich, Poor, Black, White, powerful people, ordinary people – many 1000’s of Americans chose to help runaway slaves to Freedom. Some simply provided a place to stay overnight and some food, others were involved in encouraging escapes and actually campaigning against slavery. Who was involved with the underground railroad?
