New diet analysis program from McGraw-Hill Based upon professional program called FoodWorks developed by The Nutrition Company Allows students to quickly and easily track food intake, analyze nutrient data, print reports, track physical activity, manage their weight, and more!

3 FoodWise Key Features of FoodWise HYBRID CD-ROM (works for both Mac & Windows) Includes nearly 8,000 foods in the database Additional foods can be added easily using the information on the Nutrition Facts label Includes NEW, updated RDA/AI guidelines (the most recent available)

4 FoodWise Insert the CD Go to Start, then Run D:\SETUP.EXE (or click on your CD drive and double click on Setup.exe) Follow the step-by-step instructions FoodWise is now installed! Windows users can now select FoodWise from the Start Program menu *For Macintosh installation, launch the installer icon and follow the prompts for installation How to install FoodWise:

5 FoodWise Double click FoodWise Diet & Exercise Analysis to enter the main program! Home

6 FoodWise Click on Create New Profile the first time you use the program to begin entering data. When you return to the program, you will select Open Profile to open a previously saved profile and continue working. Save your new profile in a convenient location. Profile Screen

7 FoodWise Main Help Screen The first time you enter the program, you will see a detailed “Help” screen. Once you read this screen, you can keep it from popping up by unselecting the “Show Help on startup” button

8 FoodWise Control Panel The Control Panel appears on the left side of your screen and contains FOUR buttons (arranged from top to bottom in the order you would normally use them)

9 FoodWise Click the Help button in the main menu any time for help in using the program When special “help” information is available for a display, you will see a small button with a Question Mark (?) on it. Click the button for additional information! Additional Help

10 FoodWise Enter your personal data Select an Activity Level or click on Specified Activities to choose your own activities from the list The Body Mass Index (BMI) value will be automatically adjusted to reflect changes made in height and weight values. Enter personal data

11 FoodWise Double click on an activity, enter the amount of time spent doing the activity, then click OK Continue adding entire day’s activities and when you are finished, click OK Note: All time unaccounted for is automatically calculated as SLEEP, so make sure to include all activities! 12 FoodWise Setting Preferences Select “Set Preferences” on the File menu to decide how your analysis will be performed If you are analyzing data for a particular person, choose the RDA/AI (or Canadian RNI). If you are generating a Nutrition Facts Label, choose the Daily Values dietary standard.

13 FoodWise Entering Foods Click on Food List. Type a food name in the Search phrase box, then click on Search Database. Use the Abbreviation? button to clarify an abbreviation used in the food list

14 FoodWise Double click on a selected food and enter the Serving Size, Meal, and Day information. Click on Add this food to add the item to your food list Entering Foods

15 FoodWise Food List Search Tips Do not use plurals (type “egg” not “eggs”) If you don’t know the correct spelling, type the beginning of words (type “scram” instead of “scrambled”) If you can’t find a particular food, try using fewer words (instead of typing “French cut green beans” try simply “green beans”) Use the word “raw” when searching for fresh fruits and vegetables If a search produces a very long list (spaghetti for example) try a more detailed word (“sauce”)

16 FoodWise Click on What’s in this? to see the nutritional value of a food Entering Foods

17 FoodWise Click on Show Details to view individual items in your food list Click on the Change button to edit previously entered information. Click Re-select to use this food for another meal or day Entering Foods

18 FoodWise Some food names are very long. Click the “Choose Display Window View” button at the bottom of the screen to widen the lists to see complete food names. To make the lists equal again, click “Equalize List Windows” Entering Foods

19 FoodWise Adding your own Foods To add a new food to the database, go to the main Edit menu and click “Add to the User Database” Any food can easily be added using the information from the Nutrition Facts label!

20 FoodWise Once you have entered foods for all assigned days, click on Display Results Select Analyze results by Day, Meal, or Average of Several Days Click Analyze Display Results

21 FoodWise Display Results Display Results produces 3 types of reports: 1 Nutrient Totals 2 Percent of RDA/AI Achieved 3 Fat & Calorie Pie Charts 1 23

22 FoodWise Activity Analysis Click on Display Results to see how your calories were expended during your activities.

23 FoodWise Click on Print Reports for a complete printout of your diet analysis. Print Reports

24 FoodWise Create a Food Label In the main File menu, click “Make Food Label” to make a Food Label based on analysis results

25 FoodWise Weight Management Click on File, Exit to Home Display. Click on Weight Manager to calculate your weight goals.

26 FoodWise Enter height, weight, activity level in the appropriate boxes. Select Calculate by pounds per week or # of weeks to attain desired weight. (Calculates current and goal BMI and calories needed to reach goal.) Select Print or Close this Display. Weight Management
