4 Girls on the edge The FOUR FACTORS DRIVING the NEW CRISIS for GIRLS BY LEONARD SAX, M.D. Ph. D “Let girls have the chance to be girls. Don’t push them to be women and sexual agents before they have had a chance to be girls for as long as they need to be.” Chapter 1. first factor: sexual identity “One key to a healthy, happy, and fulfilled life is to live each stage of your life to its fullest. When you are a child, do the things that children are meant to do. Be silly and carefree. When you become an adult, then it’s time to put those childish things away, for the most part, and to assume the responsibilities of an adult. By pushing girls to act like adults before their time, our 21 st century culture is robbing them of their girlhood and often condemning them to an unhappy adulthood.” Chapter 3. third factor: obsessions
