Learning Target: I will be able to compare different forms of government? 2 Preview In your group, list and write as many forms of transportation as you can What is similar about all of these forms? What is different

3 Vocabulary Civics: Study of what it means to be a US citizen Government: Organizations, institutions, and individuals that exercise political authority on behalf of a group of people Direct Democracy: form of government in which all people meet together at 1 place to make laws and decide what actions to take Representative Democracy: form of government in which the people elect representatives to carry on the work of government for them Socialism: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods Communism: economic system based on Karl Marx theories and in which means of production are owned by the govt and govt decides what will be produced Monarchy: undivided rule or absolute sovereignty by a single person Oligarchy: government by the few Autocracy: government in which one person possesses unlimited power

4 Activity Get back into your groups Two persons in the group pull out your cell phone Use cell phones to research 3 examples of each form of government listed in your vocabulary If cell phones are found being used for anything other than the assignment will be confiscated IMMEDIATELY When everyone is finished we will discuss the examples as well as look the countries up on the map

5 Formative Assessment Choose 2 different forms of government and list 2 differences between them. Discuss Grade yourself
