6 Admission to UC 6 California residents who meet freshman admission requirements and are: Top 9% in school (ELC) or Top 9% statewide are guaranteed admission, though not necessarily to campus or program of choice

7 Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) 7 Program by which UC identifies top-performing California high school students ELC draws qualified students from among the top 9% of each participating high school ELC ranking is determined by UCOP once students report courses and grades Must be a California resident and attend an eligible, participating California high school.California resident

9 Comprehensive Review 9 Each campus, in consultation with the UC Office of the President, sets goals that specify the number of new freshmen and transfer students expected to enroll for the fall term Most campuses have more qualified applicants than they have room to accommodate thus, they apply standards that are more demanding than the minimum requirements. Information on how a campus reviews students for admission can be viewed on the campus website

10 Comprehensive Review 10 Using a process called comprehensive review, evaluators look beyond test scores and grades to evaluate applicants' academic achievements in light of the opportunities available to them and the capacity each student demonstrates to contribute to the intellectual life of the campus.

13 Community College Transfer 13 We give highest priority to California community college students transferring as juniors – who make up over 90% of our transfer class. Requirements: Complete the 7-course pattern by the end of the spring term prior to fall enrollment at UC Complete at least 60 semester/90 quarter units of UC-transferable credit. Earn at least a 2.4 GPA in UC-transferable courses (2.8 if you're a nonresident).

14 Community College Transfer 14 Meeting these basic requirements doesn't guarantee admission to the campus or major of your choice To be as competitive as possible, you should work toward meeting the requirements for the campuses and majors you're interested in Specifically, you should complete: All major preparation courses listed on ASSIST.org General education requirements

15 Associates Degree for Transfer 15 Choose courses that align with the requirements at the UC campuse(s) you're interested in Use ASSIST.org or our major preparation paths to guide you in choosing the right courses Although earning an ADT does not guarantee admission to UC, some campuses consider it in the comprehensive review

18 Personal Statement 18 Grades and test scores are only one part of the story Helps the University learn more about an individual applicants: Talents Experiences Achievements Points of View Not a (re)list of qualities/accomplishments

19 Personal Statement 19 An introduction to the admission officer and faculty who may evaluate the application Should reflect original ideas Written in a natural style that conveys the personality of the applicant Ideas should be conveyed in a focused, thoughtful, and meaningful manner Supported with specific examples

26 26 File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) OR a California Dream Act Application between January 1 and March 2 If you're a eligible California resident make sure your GPA has been submitted for a Cal Grant between January 1 – March 2 Students must submit the FAFSA/Dream Act application to receive financial aid from the University of California Over two-thirds of UC undergraduates receive some gift aid, with an average award of over $16,000.

27 Scholarships 27 Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan (UC) Intended to assist low-income students Family income of less than $80,000/year Must qualify for financial aid Middle Class Scholarship Program (CA) Intended to assist middle-class students attending UC and CSU Family income of up to $150,000/year
