1 LED Sports field lighting Technology update
Football NSW LED Sports field lighting Technology update November 6, 2015

2 The LED journey in sports fields
What is the difference And the risks… Case studies – Ipswich, New Farm, Palm Beach Roi & TCO - important inclusions Bundling v the Australian standards Next steps in Europe Three key messages to take away.

3 LED in sports field lighting
LED can now clearly outperform 1970’s HID. A long long long life….. 25,000. It is here and delivering on the fields. Reduces maintenance and energy. Higher capital cost – lower opex. (risk) Mostly unknown, or challenged by your engineers, lighting designers and planners….sorry !! (risk) Maintenance factor should be 0.85 or 0.9 (risk) Procurement processes – non conforming tenders & weightings 500 + installs and accelerating since 2009 Patent modular design allowing optics variations & weight control

4 The facts Actual size on pole… True retrofit Direct 415 v connect
Wireless control-its 2015 folks! Similar weight & size Similar sail area Conventional mounting No lock in strategy. Less cabling on new installs

5 Ipswich Rangers Rugby Club Field 2
case study #1 Council pilot project Correct due diligence process 147 Lux ave.(170 independent) 0.7 uniformity 0.4 min/max Outperformed expectations Now used as field 1 Club and players love it

6 University of Queensland
Case study #2 Tennis Club 21 Courts. Main 900 lux. All Others 490 lux. LCMS and “Sporte” Booking system Massive drop in energy usage Club president “ first time in 30 years I can see the ball” , ..LED light… 2 additional fields purchased. Plus 2 new synthetics to 500 lux Roll out across UQ campus.

7 Palm Beach Sharks( football) 2 fields( 100 lux) & 3 mini mods (50 lux) perimeter lighting 6 pole 20 luminaires – challenging spill & glare control project. Case study #3 Bigger than an AFL field 120+ lux Lcms control at clubhouse Controlled spill Minimal glare Engineer certified. Visionary board. Future proofing against opex costs…

8 Roi & TCO Payback of 3 + years is achievable but is site specific based hours, lux levels, & lcms. TCO’s should include all costs – energy, lamps ,demand charges, EWP’s, labour & lamps, and failed gaskets…if applicable. We are now doing whole of council costing's Project price verse whole of life savings….

9 Some other advantages…
No lock into one total solution – we retrofit. CO2 reductions No Mercury / toxic componentry Quality of play Better training = better performance Reduced risk of injury HDTV compliant – flicker free

10 Key messages LED can light all fields & stadiums- and retrofit.
Accurate Roi inputs are critical. The other non financial benefits are exciting. Procurement – what do you want? Technical papers & modeling tools available…
