3 Facts about OTPL  We have been part of the community since 1926  We have 193,177 items in our collection  We circulated 494, 830 items in 2014  We had 201,269 people visit our library in 2014  Our service area has a population of 36,000 people  Every student in Lake Orion Community Schools is issued a library card whether they live in our service area or not  Every teacher is issued an annual teacher card with special privileges

4 Facts about Lake Orion Community Schools  Serve 7765 school age children  Graduation rate is 96%  140 English Language Learners  777 children qualify for special education services  District annually outperforms Oakland County and state averages in all tested subject areas  All schools have a library in-house  Not every school library is staffed by a MLIS librarian

8 Summer Reading Every year we offer a 9-10 week summer reading program in which approximately 900-1000 students participate.

9 Battle of the Books We have been doing a 5 th Grade Battle of the Books since the 1980’s. We now have over 40% of all 5 th graders participating.

10 Dragon Award Children in grades 2-5 pick out their favorite book from a choice of five books that OTPL librarians know are favorites The teachers use their computer lab time to let the students vote online for their favorite book The books are available in the public and school libraries

15 Benefits of Collaboration for OTPL  Friends sell more books at the book sale by offering teacher night  Schools promote library visits to schools and special programs which increases library visibility  Teacher and student library cards increase usage statistics for both materials and online resources  Schools have supported OTPL when we have gone for a millage
