4 Enter your student/ personnel number ( e.g.12345678) If you have a PIN type it here. If not click on SUBMIT and choose a new PIN on the next page You must be a registered Library user. 8 Choose your own Login name (these days they prefer that you use your e-mail as your login name) and Password Supply your e-mail address Click on “Next”

9 Supply your Name and Surname Select a “Type of User” and “Focus area” Enter the displayed words Click on “Create Account”

10 Congratulations! You have created your account successfully

11 Cattle diseases Click on New Folder, Name the folder and click on Create Create a New Folder to add your references

12 RefWorks allows users to create personal databases and use them for a variety of research activities. References are quickly and easily imported from text files, online databases, through RSS feeds or via the web. Users can automatically insert references from their database into their papers and generate formatted bibliographies and manuscripts in instantly. Users can access RefWorks any time, from any web-connected computer running any operating platform. RefWorks incorporates an online style guide within the program. No more hunting through style instructions to find the correct format. Users can upload any type of file--graphic, video, sound, and more--to existing references stored in RefWorks databases, and easily retrieve and share them. Why RefWorks?

15 Selected results can be exported to Refworks Do a search on CAB Abstracts and select the references to export

18 Login to Refworks to export your results into your Refworks folders

19 Click on View Last Imported Folder to se the list of references

21 To add references to a folder select “All in list”, click on the Folder icon and click on the folder name

22 References have been added to the Cattle diseases folder. Number of references in the folder changed

23 Medline & Zoological Record

24 Results can be Exported to a reference managing software e.g. Refworks Results can be selected or used as a set Do a search on Medline / Zoological Record and select the references to export

25 Select Refworks in the Export To window Complete the other 3 fields and click on Export Citation

26 Should you come across this page please select as indicated

27 Click on View Last Imported Folder to see the list of references

28 To add references to a folder select “All in list”, click on the Add icon and click on the folder name

31 Click on “Export citations” Do a search on Science Direct and select the references to be exported

32 1. Decide on the Content Format 2. Select Refworks Direct Export 3. Click on Export

34 Click on View Last Imported Folder and continue as set out in the CAB Abstracts and Medline slides

36 Do a search and select some of the records by clicking on “Add to folder”

37 After the records have been added click on “Folder” or “Folder view” to see the list of selected records

38 To export the selected results click on Export Select records to export from the displayed folder

39 1. Select the “Direct Export to Refworks” button 2. Click on “Save”

40 Click on View Last Imported Folder and continue as set out in the CAB Abstracts and Medline slides

41 UP Explore (catalogue of UP) & Pubmed

42 Login to Refworks and click on Search. Select Online Catalogue or Database

43 In the Search window select University of Pretoria

44 Click on Advanced search. Select a field and type the keywords. Click on Search

45 Work through the displayed list and mark the references to add to your folder. Click on Import to folder. Select the correct folder.

46 Click on OK

47 Click on View Last Imported Folder and continue as set out in the CAB Abstracts and Medline slides

48 ISAP (Index to South African periodicals)

49 49 Type a keyword/s in the Keywords window Remember the Boolean operators Click on Search

50 50 Click on the title to find more information

51 Journal’s title 51 To see if journal is available in the Jotello F Soga Library go to the catalogue and check Possible full text option

52 Selected records will appear in the “My action List” Select the records to be used

53 Select all the references in the “My action List” and click on “Export selected Items” References in the “My action List” can be printed, e-mailed and exported to Refworks

54 Select “Export to Refworks”

55 Login to Refworks to export your results into your Refworks folders

56 Click on View Last Imported Folder to see the list of references

57 Add references manually

58 Manual input Login to Refworks and click on New Reference

59 Complete this template and click on Save Reference

60 How to get a list of your references

61 Click on References and then select “Export”

62 Click on References to Include and select the folders to be included

63 Click on Export Format and select Citation List

64 Click on Export

65 All the references in the Animal Diseases folder
