1 Cell, Tissue, Organ, System
Sarah Cunningham

2 Cells Cells are the basic unit of life for all living organisms.
Nothing in the body would function without cells. Cells contain your DNA. Every function in your body is done at the cellular level. There are many parts to cells. You can see in the diagram to the right.

3 Cell to Tissue Similar cells come together to form tissues.
Cell organize themselves and put themselves into groups so they can work together to perform a function. This is the first organization that cells make up. Muscle fiber cell

4 Tissues The body is made up of four types of tissues:
Connective: Connects and supports tissue. Not many cells around, just non-living material Epithelial: Tight cells squeezed together to give the skin a hard covering. It also lines the inside of hollow organs. Muscle: Can contract and relax due to cells. These tissues allow the body to make movement. Nerve: Cells that carry electrical signals to and from the brain, along with other parts of the body.

5 Types of Tissues Epithelial Tissue Muscle Tissue

6 Tissue to Organ Groups of tissues put together forms and organ that will perform a certain task. Examples: The stomach, heart, lung, etc.

7 Organs The organs in our body each have a specific job. Like the heart’s job is to pump blood throughout the body. Problem is that the heart can not do this alone. When organs come together to perform a function in the body it is called a system. Organs are found all throughout the body, they are each part of a system.

8 System Systems are the general make up of organs.
Systems are large and spread throughout the body. Like the Circulatory system is not just the heart (organ) it involves the veins and other systems as well. All the systems work together to allow the body to function each and every day.
