The human body is made of trillions of animal cells The body is organized: Cells--tissues--organs--organ systems--organism
Basic unit of life- makes up all living things Smallest living part of our body that perform functions Cannot live alone- they depend on all other cells in the body to function properly Example: blood cell Red blood cell carries oxygen from the lungs throughout the rest of the body
A group of similar cells that work together to perform a function Similar to a brick wall (individual bricks are the cells but put together they make a wall) Four types of tissues: Epithelial Nerve Muscle Connective
Made up of two or more tissues that carry out a particular function in the body. Examples: Heart, skin, lungs, stomach, kidneys, brain, etc.
Group of similar organs put together to perform a specific function and to keep the body energized and living. Examples: circulatory system, nervous system, endocrine system, respiratory system, integumentary system
Ability to maintain internal conditions in the body to function properly. Homeostasis=Balance! Body is always striving to reach this!
