Discussion: Usability of INSPIRE data Recent example 1 – Eur-Lex The EU Publications Office are looking for reliable source for geographical coordinates for their "Places" authority table INSPIRE GN data sets could be a source BUT currently it is difficult (impossible?) to create a European gazetteer based on the GN data available in the INSPIRE geoportal

Discussion: Usability of INSPIRE data Recent example 2: pan-European Open Data Portal tender The contractor analyzed possible data sources for geographical names: –INSPIRE WFS of the 28 member states (based on content of monitoring tables) –www.geonames.org Observations: –Hardly any EU member state offers an INSPIRE compliant WFS or comparable data download or the service is not published (so it could not be found with intense online search) –Available WFS or downloadable data of the member states are not INPSIRE compliant –Some member states only published INSPIRE WMS –INSPIRE or other related websites are not available in English, the general regulations of the data provider in the member states is not clear (language barrier) –Some member state’s services are only available with extra payment –Service URLs are only accessible after registration or a step-by-step “shopping” process is needed (no continuous harvesting possible) –Service URLs are only valid for a limited time period (no continuous harvesting possible)
