Presentation on theme: "Experience ASL uses the signs to EXPERIENCE and FINISH to ask questions about whether someone has or has not done something. These types of questions often."— Presentation transcript:

1 Experience ASL uses the signs to EXPERIENCE and FINISH to ask questions about whether someone has or has not done something. These types of questions often begin with “Have you…” in English. Have you been swimming?

2 But in ASL the question is asked without using the sign HAVE.
The sign HAVE is literal and indicates possession of something, so using it to ask “Have you gone bowling?” is incorrect.

3 Instead, the concept of the sign EXPERIENCE asks
________q__________ YOU EXPERIENCE BOWL? Do you have any experience with bowling?

4 More Examples ___________q_____________
ASL: YOU EXPRERIENCE (fs) SCUBA? English: Have you gone scuba diving?/ Do you know have to scuba dive? ASL: YES. I EXPREIENCE (fs) SCUBA. English: Yes. I’ve done scuba diving./ Yes, I know how to scuba dive.

5 Finish Another way to respond to a “Have to …” Question is to use FINISH, to show you have already experienced what was asked. ASL: YES. I FINISH EXPERIENCE (fs) SCUBA. English: Yes. I’ve gone scuba diving.

6 More on Finish Finish can also be a time indicator. To tell something is done or has/will happen. Examples: _____t____ HOMEWORK I FINISH ______t______ SCHOOL FINISH I GO HOME.

7 Not Yet To respond negatively to a “Have you….?” question, use the LATE sign and the non-manual signal of slightly your tongue out. This combination mean NOT-YET or I haven’t. ASL: NO. I NOT-YET EXPERIENCE (fs) SCUBA. English: No. I haven’t gone scuba diving.

8 Now, I’m going to ask you. _______whq__________
ASL: YOU EXPERIENCE WHAT? English: What have you experience? It can be a sport, a class, a food…..

9 During The sign DURING is used to explain the general time an action occurs.

10 During Examples _______t_____ ______C________
DURING SUMMER I PLAY BASEBALL I. _______t_____ _______C____ 2. DURING WINTER I PLAY HOCKEY. _______t_____ ___C__ 3. DURING SCHOOL I BUSY ______T_____ _____C_________ 4. DURING GAME I MEET MY FRIEND
