3 SUMMARY of VIOLATIONS 2006-2008 We Need Your Help for the 2009 Inspection!

4 The top five hazard / violation types are easily identified and can be addressed in a matter of minutes.

5 Exit Signs Not Illuminated or Damaged

6 Testing and Exit Sign Depress the test button Light should switch to battery and remain illuminated.

7 Fire Doors Blocked/Not Operating Properly Latch failure / Door not locking Fire doors blocked open

8 Combustible Materials Stored in Egress Pathways

9 Fire Extinguisher Inspections Unit mounted, signs in-place Unit charges, dial in green Pin in-place and secured with tie Hose free of debris and undamaged Annual inspection current Monthly inspection documented on tag

10 Emergency Lights Testing Emergency Lights Depress the test button Light should switch to battery and remain illuminated. Emergency Lights – Common Issues / Violations Light bulbs burnt out Batteries need replaced Lights damaged

11 Improper Use of Extension Cords Common Issues / Violations “ Daisy Chained” cords Overloaded multi-strips or plugs Extension cords used as permanent wiring. Multiple high load appliances plugged in a power strip

13 OTHER COMMON VIOLATIONS   General housekeeping – combustible clutter in offices, stairways, storage areas   Missing ceiling tiles

14 PREVENTING/CORRECTING VIOLATIONS   Report any exit signs that are not illuminated to Physical Plant x2000 or fixx@rpi.edufixx@rpi.edu   Do not prop open any fire doors.   Remove any objects holding fire doors open.   Replace any fire extinguisher that is not on its hanger. If there is no hanger contact Physical Plant.   Do not overload electrical circuits.   Maintain orderly storage areas.   Storage clearance from the ceiling needs to be 28”
