5 History In 1947 Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR founds Toys for Tots in Los Angeles, California. Over 5,000 toys were collected during the first campaign in 1947. The first toy was a handmade doll. In 1989 the U. S. Marine Corps identifies the need for the creation of a charity to be the fundraising and support organization for the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

6 Donations Toys should be unwrapped to enable coordinators and volunteers to determine that gift is safe for distribution and to identify the appropriate age and gender for each gift. Gift Certificates/cards are a safe and easy way for donors to give money to the charity. Gift certificates/cards should be to toy/department stores.
