2 Fort Sumter was the Union position bombarded for 30 hours before surrendering. It was where the Civil War began.

4 Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell The first woman to receive a license to practice medicine. Helped start the US Sanitary Commission.

5 The Confederacy had the advantage of having a better military tradition, and thus had better military leaders than the Union.

6 General Winfield Scott Union general who created the Union war strategy but was too old to lead the troops. Mexican War General.

7 The Confederate war strategy was to defend itself against Northern attacks, and to wear down the wills of the Northern people and its government.

8 General Thomas Jackson Confederate General nicknamed Stonewall for his performance at Bull Run.

9 General George McClellan Union General who took Yorktown after hesitating for fear of being outnumbered. Organized and trained the Union Army.

10 General Robert E. Lee Was offered the Union Army command, but instead led the Southern troops.

11 General Jeb Stuart Confederate General in charge of Cavalry and scouting.
