Panel production status Panels needed according to official plan 5385 14-Oct-05 A rate of 250/month is mandatory to match the chamber production schedule. ~5385 panels have been produced. The production rate is >300 panels/month. Total production ~6400 instead of 5700  end production in 3-4 months

Panels sent to production sites JuneJuly/AugSeptOctober M4R4-246220 going on 140 ready M2R4200160END- M5R4104806715 M4R2-30115PAUSED M4R3---60 M5R26523PAUSED- M5R1-6038END M4R1--- Start next week

Panel quality all types of panels will be measured with Rome-2 laser device, providing sagitta in 10 positions along panel length and thickness in 7x10 positions x,y. This was not done in the past for small panels: just to shorten the delay between production and sending (this was my decision). This was not relevant. panel planarity is generally good (low fraction of rejected panels) thanks to the mould at lower temperature (Mario). Pads connected to ground : –my mistake: we did not check pad connections in R2 before panel production –in Potenza did not check pad continuity on the panels before bar gluing –In Ferrara they found the problem during M4R2 production, after all M5R2 chambers were built Even with verified FR4 foils (M4R2) we got some panels with pads connected t ground  how can it be ?? Imperfect production of M5R1 panels: bad attachment of foam to FR4. This has been solved but implied much more work for CERN group. The cause has been understood and the problem will be avoided in next production of M4R1 panels.

Material to complete productions M5R2 : 28 chambers assembled but 7 additional chambers will be built, because: 3 ch. with pad connections broken, 2 ch. with 2 pads connected to ground, 1 ch. with a broken wire, 1 ch. with 1 gap with floating pads (lower gain) M4R2 : several defective Pad panels, with pads connected to ground  panel production paused because material is finished. Chamber prod. going on. More FR4 and HV bars being ordered to complete 30 chambers. M2R3 : 50 good chambers; ordering material for 7 more spare chambers. M4R3 : all material available for 60 chambers. Panel production started (60). M5R4 : 65 ch. built in LNF / ~100 in Firenze (of which ~6 bad)  Ordering material to complete 210 good chambers taking into account the bad chambers and the material rejected during production M3R3 : 54 good chambers; 4 with problems (1 gas leakage; 3 with broken wire) Ordering material for 3 more chambers. M5R3 : we are completing 59 chambers (in 1-2 weeks). Ordering material for 1 more.

M1 honeycomb panels Giovanni and I visited the company Erbicol for production of honeycomb panels In few days they will receive the angular pieces and will start production of M1R4 panels. They will first produce few copper-copper panels to check the procedure and then start real production. LNF will produce 2-3 more M5R4 chambers if the M1R4 panels arrival will be delayed. Then, LNF will start production of 60 M1R4 chambers. Panel 2: GOLD top GOLD bottom A - B Panel 3: COPPER top GOLD bottom P - P C - C A - B Panel 1: GOLD top COPPER bottom C - C T holes Closed h. 7 Commissioning Board The Coordinator (O.Callot) is pushing for a quick start of the work. From his e-mail : there is a mailing list mailto:lhcb-commissioning@cern.ch, registration via themailto:lhcb-commissioning@cern.ch secretariat if you think some other people should be informed. there is a web site, http://cern.ch/lhcb-commissioning almost empty, but this willhttp://cern.ch/lhcb-commissioning improve ! I think we should start regular meetings, with our two main activities: discuss and define the running scenario on one hand, and schedule the commissioning itself with requests for tool and services on the other hand. A short weekly meeting with VRVS seems appropriate for the time being (11:00 to 12:30 Geneva time) Many items to be discussed, much work to do : commission the sub-systems define the mode of operation for data taking in 2008++ : start/stop sequences, calibration events, monitoring strategy, file change/storage strategy, and so on. define, produce, implement the needed tools prepare the detector through global commissioning, including the pilot run
